Visual and Performing Arts
At Irvine Chinese Immersion Academy, our performing arts program serves as a bridge connecting language, culture, and personal expression. We believe that music and theater are powerful mediums for fostering bilingual proficiency, cultural awareness, and socio-emotional growth in our students.
Vision
Our program aspires to be a dynamic, inclusive, and culturally rich environment where students experience language in action. Through performances, music, and theater, we encourage students to use both English and Mandarin in creative, impactful ways, establishing a new benchmark for bilingual education in the arts.
Mission
We are committed to an innovative performing arts education that seamlessly integrates language learning with artistic expression. Students participate in bilingual performances, create original plays, and explore musicals, building a unique appreciation for diverse cultures. This hands-on approach allows them to develop essential communication skills, collaborate with peers, and grow in confidence. Our mission is to inspire every child to enjoy and explore the arts, empowering them academically, socially, and emotionally.

Music
The music program at Irvine Chinese Immersion Academy is led by Ms. Jordan Sparks, who is excited to join the ICIA community! Rooted in the California Arts Standards, the program is designed to support student success while fostering a passion for music.
This program will engage students in developing musicianship, technical skill, and musical expression through a blended approach based on the Orff-Schulwerk and Kodály philosophies. In the lower grades, students explore rhythm and melody through singing, movement, and hands-on experiences with Orff xylophones and percussion. In the upper grades, students begin learning string instruments and build foundational ensemble skills through age-appropriate instruction and activities.

We are also proud to be partnering with Pacific Symphony’s Class Act program—an award-winning music education initiative that brings professional musicians into schools to support and enrich students’ musical experiences through workshops, assemblies, and performances.
This is a growing program with exciting opportunities ahead. Ms. Sparks is committed to building a joyful and inclusive learning environment and looks forward to watching the program expand and evolve in the years to come.
Art
Led by Mrs. Julie Fong, the art program is designed to give students a rich, hands-on experience with art history and creation. Each month begins with an engaging assembly that introduces a new famous artist, such as Van Gogh, Mondrian, or M. C. Escher, sharing their background and signature techniques.
Following the assembly, students work on projects directly in their classrooms, using the same artistic methods they just learned about. In addition, students are exposed to different art media and projects while building a strong foundation that aligns with art standards.
